The IBMA World of Bluegrass is the most important week in bluegrass. A bold statement, yes, but the diverse and enormous event that it is, there really is nothing that compares.

Scheduled for September 27 – October 1, 2022, in Raleigh, NC, the IBMA World of Bluegrass facilitates the growth and development of the bluegrass music community at large. Activities include a business conference, band and product showcases, awards show, and a large music festival with multiple stages.

Attendees can interact one-on-one with industry leaders, discover new music, jam with their heroes, and be a part of bluegrass history. In other words, there is something for everyone.

The event is run by the International Bluegrass Musicians Association (IBMA). The IBMA is the non-profit music association that connects, educates, and empowers bluegrass professionals and enthusiasts, honoring tradition and encouraging innovation in the bluegrass community worldwide.

The IBMA Business Conference

The IBMA Bluegrass Awards

The IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards are determined by three rounds of voting by current IBMA professional members. The awards recognize outstanding achievement and pioneering efforts in bluegrass music.

The Distinguished Achievement Awards honor forerunners and ambassadors for bluegrass music. Industry Awards acknowledge outstanding work in non-performing industry categories, and the Momentum Awards recognize artists and businesspeople who are in the early years of their respective careers.

The 2022 awards event, the 33rd Annual IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards, happens September 29 at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh. It’s the biggest night of the year for bluegrass aficionados. Every year produces incredible once-in-a-lifetime moments and outstanding performances by the best artists in the genre.

Norman Blake, Paul “Moon” Mullins, and Peter Rowan are the 2022 Inductees to the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place at the IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards.

The IBMA Bluegrass Ramble

IBMA’s official showcase series, the Bluegrass Ramble, is all about the music. The premier platform for introducing talent and new material to the bluegrass community, bluegrass fans fill six venues throughout Downtown Raleigh over three nights to catch the newest in bluegrass music. The IBMA curates some of the finest bluegrass artists on the planet and attendees will enjoy the enthusiasm of these new artists.

The Bluegrass Ramble features various showcases including a Songwriter Showcase (10 select songwriter/songwriter teams), IBMA Kids on Bluegrass program and IBMA Youth Stage, Bluegrass College Band Showcase, and International Band performances.

IBMA Bluegrass Live! Festival

Hitting home runs is a hard act to follow. That said, IBMA seems to do just that every year. The 2022 festival features IBMA and GRAMMY award-winning legends, top-notch emerging acts, and amazing collaborations.

The festival element of the IBMA World of Bluegrass is held September 30 – October 1 at the Red Hat Amphitheater and in downtown Raleigh. During the two-day festival, Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh is closed from Martin Street to the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts to accommodate several blocks and stages of music. Street vendors provide food and beverage, arts and crafts, family fun, and more.

Featured performers for 2022 include Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, The Jerry Douglas Band with special guests, The Dan Tyminski Band, Sierra Hull, and The Infamous Stringdusters.

The IBMA World of Bluegrass Exhibit Hall

The 150,000 square-foot Exhibit Hall enhances the conference and festival experience throughout IBMA World of Bluegrass (September 27 – October 1). It’s the central gathering place for IBMA World of Bluegrass.

Exhibitors highlight their brands and sell products throughout the week. A great opportunity to see new products and connect with exhibitors and attendees in one central location.

Wednesday and Thursday the Exhibit Hall is open to registered attendees of the IBMA Business Conference only.

Friday and Saturday the Exhibit Hall is open to the public. A festival ticket is not required for entrance.

The Chapman’s Acoustic Shoppe/Ozark Music Shoppe at IBMA World of Bluegrass

The Chapmans, as a touring bluegrass band, have been involved in IBMA World of Bluegrass for many years. The family music store, The Acoustic Shoppe, located in Springfield, MO, will participate in the 2022 World of Bluegrass with a large space in the Exhibit Hall. Brothers John, Jeremy, and Jason Chapman, along with other Acoustic Shoppe staff members, will be at the event displaying and selling product.

The Acoustic Shoppe will feature guitars, mandolins, and other fine acoustic instruments, as well as accessories and other merchandise.

In addition, the Chapmans will be creating content throughout the event for their numerous social media channels and the group’s television show, The Ozark Music Shoppe. Lots of guest appearances and surprise moments are on tap.
