Prucha Banjos

Prucha Banjos

Founded by Jaroslav Průcha in the 1970s, Průcha Bluegrass Instruments has grown from humble beginnings to become a premier name in banjo and mandolin craftsmanship. Průcha's passion for bluegrass began when he first encountered the banjo on a boy scout camping trip. Unable to obtain one in Czechoslovakia, he built his own in 1974, marking the start of his journey as a luthier.

Over the years, Průcha refined his skills, gaining international recognition. In 1988, American banjo legend Tony Trischka visited and was impressed by Průcha’s ability to replicate a Stelling banjo using only photographs. This led to collaborations with U.S. luthiers, including Geoff Stelling, and in 2000, Průcha began manufacturing components for Gibson Banjos, further solidifying his reputation.

By 2020, Průcha expanded into a new workshop, allowing for greater efficiency while maintaining his meticulous craftsmanship. Today, the company remains a family-run operation, with Jan Průcha contributing to its continued excellence. All hardware is manufactured in-house, ensuring the highest quality. Průcha banjos are played by renowned musicians worldwide, preserving the tradition of handcrafted, high-performance instruments.
