Bourgeois Guitars: A legacy of quality.

The name Dana Bourgeois holds a special place within the guitar world. Dana is a legend in the luthier industry and has personally handcrafted acoustic guitars for famous performers, such as Ricky Skaggs and Doc Watson. For over 40 years, the Bourgeois team has shaped the sound of acoustic music by constructing these beautifully balanced instruments.

The Acoustic Shoppe had the amazing opportunity to become an official Bourgeois dealer earlier this year and we’ve since been privileged enough to keep a steady rotation of these beautiful guitars in our showroom. We would love to help you determine which Bourgeois guitar is the guitar for you! Here are our current favorite Bourgeois dreadnoughts in the shoppe.

Bourgeois Generation Dreadnought

The Bourgeois Generation is designed to project a premium dreadnought sound but at an entry level price point into the Bourgeois collection.  Aged tone Sitka provides the ideal stiffness for the top of the instrument to create a clear, resonant tone,  while the Mahogany on the back and sides creates additional warmth and sustain to the guitar’s sound.  This delicate combination of tonewoods creates a sound world that flatpickers dream of.

This “workhorse” guitar is designed to be taken out on the road and played all the time, not sitting in a case or gathering dust in your basement. Players will have the opportunity to experience the beginnings of the next generation of uncompromised Bourgeois acoustic sound through this dreadnought while having the flexibility of plug-in capability with an L.R. Baggs Lyric acoustic pickup.

Bourgeois Custom Vintage Bearclaw

The Bourgeois Vintage Series is intended to combine that sought-after vintage “pre-war” guitar aesthetic with modern innovations to create an unparalleled level of playability. We worked exclusively with Dana to build this one-of-a-kind, custom dreadnought that’s sure to be a show stopper.

This custom guitar features the visual delight of an eye-catching bearclaw top, which resembles fire radiating from the soundhole. The intricacies of the Sitka Spruce top interact with the beautiful Indian Rosewood back and sides to create a complex sound that speaks at all tonal ranges. The combination of high quality materials and exclusive upgrades in this dreadnought makes this the ideal guitar for the player seeking a special and unique instrument.

Brazilian Rosewood Heirloom Series Dreadnaught

The Heirloom Series was the first Bourgeois line to make its appearance here at The Acoustic Shoppe and we’ve been in love with it ever since. These modern instruments are carefully crafted in such a special way that captures the essence of dreadnoughts from previous generations all while having that modern playability.

The defining feature of this one of a kind guitar is the enlarged soundhole, which creates the beautiful clarity in the lower tonal register that flatpickers crave. The merging of the Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce top with authentic Brazilian Rosewood back and sides helps players recreate that warm, punchy sound of pre-war dreadnoughts. In our humble opinion, this particular dreadnought is the most accurate reproduction of the original Martin 1935 dreadnoughts made infamous by Tony Rice and Clarence White.

  • Model: D, Heirloom Series - Large Soundhole
  • Build Date: 7/17/2020
  • Top: Aged Tone Adirondack Spruce
