The Furch Guitars (pronounced “furk”) story began a long time before Frantisek Furch officially established the company. In the 1970s, Frantisek, a metalworker by day and a musician by night, faced the reality that high-quality musical instruments were unavailable in the then socialist Czechoslovakia.
In 1981, Frantisek set up a one-man garage-based manufacturing shop to produce musical instruments bearing the “F” trademark. With modifications, the “F” trademark adorns headstocks of Furch guitars to this day.
The year 1993 brought the first major restructuring of Furch guitar models with the Millennium series, which offered a modern, fresh look, and the Vintage series, which elaborated on the traditional design.
By 2013 Furch Guitars had as many as 40 highly specialized core employees. At this point in time, the company optimized its portfolio by streamlining and restructuring its lines of guitar models.
In 2018, the flagship line of Millennium instruments was replaced with seven new color model lines – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet – reflecting the technology development of the company. Each of the new color series model lines is exclusive and features a unique combination of materials, finish, and appointments. There is a handy guitar name decoder displaying the differences of the color models on the company’s website furchguitars.com.
In addition, Furch Guitars also offers a premium Rainbow Series, which allows the players to choose from as many as 160 features and combine them in any way to create a truly unique instrument. The company also offers Vintage, Nylon String, Travel and Limited-Edition guitars to choose from. There is also a Master’s Choice option for each series. This designation is what the luthiers feel is the very best setup for each series (i.e., body shape, tonewoods, etc.).
Frantisek’s son, Petr Furch, who joined the management team in 2006, now leads the company on a path of designing and producing top-class instruments. The company makes approximately 8,000 guitars annually which are sold on five continents. As a technology leader in the manufacture of premium-quality acoustic guitars, Furch Guitars is committed to the continuous introduction of new designs and construction features, and the use of state-of-the-art robotic technologies to further improve the acoustic qualities of its instruments.
Over the years, Furch Guitars has defined what makes their instruments special. And they do it well.
Sound
Sound is the most important consideration for Furch Guitars. Making good-sounding instruments has been the main objective from the beginning. The outstanding acoustic qualities of Furch Guitars are the result of state-of-the art technologies and proprietary production processes, combined with the use of the best available tonewoods.
Tonewoods
Furch guitars are made from the highest quality premium tonewoods with certified origin. Meticulous attention is given to the selection of tonewoods, and the same care is taken in subsequent processing (drying, sorting, and various other tasks). Furch’s fine-tuned wood processing methods produce exceptional guitars with outstanding sound and attractive looks.
Ergonomic Design
The sharp edges of acoustic guitars can significantly reduce the player's comfort, especially during longer sessions. With this in mind, Furch came up with a solution in the form of the Bevel Duo ergonomic feature consisting of a front forearm and rear rib bevels, which helps to eliminate discomfort. This innovative feature is available on several Furch models.
Craftsmanship
Every Furch guitar is crafted with accurate precision and maximum attention to detail. The manufacturing process includes proprietary technologies that rely on expertise developed over the course of four decades. Furch guitars are handmade with the help of machines designed to achieve unsurpassed quality.
Innovation
As a technological pioneer, Furch is committed to pushing the limits of guitar making regarding sound, precision, and manufacturing technologies. Furch guitars are the choice of discerning players from around the world who profit from technological innovations such as soundboard voicing, proprietary UV finish that enhances acoustic properties, and the Furch CNR System® (a revolutionary neck reinforcement design). The Furch CNR System® consists of an adjustable truss rod placed inside a carbon casing. Combined with a high-precision manufacturing process, the innovative design translates into unparalleled stability of the neck joint and the neck along its entire length.
