New Music Friday RIPeter That Night

It is Friday, which means there is New Music so that means another New Music Friday is here to comfort you on this final day of work before the weekend. What better music than a soft served gentle tune from Kansas City singer/songwriter, Peter Beatty, also known as RIPeter. The song is titled "That Night" and it lands as track 5 on his debut full length, Soft Serve (see what I did there?). To prepare for the release of the album Peter released three eclectic offerings as singles - "Green House", "In Your Eyes", and "Soft Serve". All featuring a variety of genre mashing passages, "That Night" takes a country-esque palette with an acoustic guitar accompanied by a pedal steel guitar by "Casual" Calvin Todd. Don't be fooled by these artistic choices there is other genre-foolery afoot. Peter sings over a bed of synths into the second verse,

"People change, friends get older

While I'm fixating on

when and if I am gonna hold her"

If this isn't a love song fixated on the distance between two lovers, I don't know what is! Peter has no problem wearing his heart on his sleeve while he mixes up his genre stew. "That Night" is a beloved acoustic palette cleanser for what is to come. To listen/purchase to the rest of this sparkling bard's album you can go to his bandcamp below.
