Description
The Taylor 217e Plus pairs the round-shouldered Grand Pacific body with a solid torrefied spruce top over layered Indian rosewood back and sides, held together with C-Class bracing. Torrefying the spruce before the build heat-treats the wood to drive out moisture and resin, giving the top a broken-in, pre-aged voice from the first strum rather than the brighter, tighter sound of an untreated top — and Grand Pacific's deeper, rounder shape moves more air than a standard Grand Auditorium, with C-Class bracing voiced to turn that extra air into low-end push instead of unfocused boom.
Indian rosewood adds more overtone complexity and low-end depth than the sapele back and sides found on entry-level Grand Pacific models, and paired with this body shape it leans into a rounder, more vintage-voiced midrange than a Grand Auditorium delivers. Strummers get real low-end weight for rhythm work, flatpickers get a punchier attack on bass runs than a standard dreadnought gives up, and the sunburst top puts a vintage look on a genuinely modern-built guitar.
Appointments include a West African ebony fingerboard and bridge, black ABS bridge pins, and a satin-finished mahogany neck with Taylor's Standard Carve profile at a 1-11/16" nut, under a gloss sunburst top with black pickguard and nickel hardware. Onboard Expression System 2 electronics keep that acoustic character intact when plugged into a PA, and the guitar ships in a Brown AeroCase built for the road. Every 217e Plus ships under our Dread-Not Guarantee — a 30-day in-home trial and a full year to trade it in for 90% credit toward anything else in the store, backed by a free humidity monitoring kit. For a player who wants dreadnought-style low end with a rounder, more vintage-leaning voice than a standard Grand Auditorium, the 217e Plus covers rhythm-heavy sets and singer-songwriter work equally well.
