On this ordinary Friday we are blessed with an extra-ordinary release from singer-songwriter Hudson Freeman. This is the first taste of Freeman’s highly anticipated new EP that will be a big step forward in his sound. “Can of Worms” is about confronting the foundational things about yourself. The way you think, the anxieties of being alive, and the factors and elements that built those things inside you. The track blends delicate fingerstyle guitar with an aggressive indie rock beat, a pairing that truly only makes sense for an artist as instrumentally-diverse as Freeman. From the first few seconds you are unsure of the intentions of the songwriter, what emotions he may be trying to pull from you, but then his smooth baritone voice sets the stage for what you are about to experience. The synth and electric begin to add layers to this building progression and the listener is pulled into the upbeat morose and melancholic nature of the song. As the frantic piano comes in, the tension is building to a point of boiling over. The addition of the natural drums marks the transition to the fullest dynamic of the song.
