Description

The Eastman MD314 combines an F-style scroll body with an oval sound hole instead of the f-holes most F-style mandolins use, so you get the classic scroll silhouette with the warmer, more resonant voice an oval hole produces. A solid spruce top over solid maple back and sides pushes that tone forward with real projection.

That oval hole keeps the low end fuller and the attack rounder than a typical F-style chop mandolin, which makes the MD314 a natural fit for old-time, folk, and Celtic backup as much as bluegrass rhythm. The ebony fingerboard and bone nut over 23 Jescar frets keep fretting-hand movement smooth, and the single-acting truss rod holds the neck stable as the seasons change. An adjustable compensated ebony bridge and Eastman cast aluminum tailpiece dial in intonation and keep string energy transferring efficiently into the top.

Ivoroid binding, pearl dot inlays, and a satin finish give the MD314 a clean, understated look, and nickel-plated Proline J-105 tuners hold pitch reliably under stage lights. D'Addario XT Phosphor Bronze strings come factory strung, and it travels in a padded gig bag. It's a solid choice for the mandolin player who wants F-style styling with oval-hole warmth.
