Description

The Eastman MD404-BK pairs a solid spruce top, finished in black, with solid mahogany back and sides in a traditional A-style oval-hole body, the classic mandolin recipe for players who want warmth over aggressive bark. Mahogany keeps the tone rounder and darker than the maple used on F-style mandolins, making this a comfortable voice for backing vocals, jamming around a campfire, or woodshedding at home.

The oval soundhole opens up a softer, more even response across the strings compared to an f-hole design, so tremolo passages sound smooth rather than punchy. A 12-inch radius ebony fingerboard and 23 frets of Jescar wire give plenty of room to work up the neck, and the adjustable compensated ebony bridge keeps intonation accurate across all eight strings. The bone nut and single-acting truss rod round out a build that stays stable through string changes and seasonal humidity swings.

Pearl dot inlays, a pearl headstock logo, and nickel hardware give the MD404-BK a clean, classic look, and Pingwell tuners keep it in tune string after string. It comes housed in a hard shell case. For a player who wants a mandolin voice with warmth over cut, whether stepping up from a beginner instrument or adding a second mandolin to the collection, the MD404-BK fits the bill.
