Description
The Eastman PCH-M104-NAT pairs a solid spruce top with laminated mahogany back and sides in a compact A-style, oval-hole body built for players picking up mandolin for the first time. Spruce gives the top the brightness to project clearly, while the mahogany laminate keeps the back and sides stable and adds a warm, rounded low end that's forgiving for a beginner's ear.
It strums and chops with an easygoing, mellow voice rather than an aggressive bark, making it a comfortable instrument for learning chord shapes, working through fiddle tunes, or backing up a singer-songwriter around a campfire. The maple neck and rosewood fingerboard keep the action smooth and the fretting hand relaxed, and the single-acting truss rod means the neck stays true as the strings settle in.
Finished in natural satin rather than a shaded stain, the PCH-M104-NAT lets the spruce top's grain show through for a clean, understated look. It arrives strung with D'Addario XT Phosphor Bronze strings in a padded gig bag. For players searching for a first mandolin with its woodgrain on display rather than hidden under a stain, the PCH-M104-NAT is the pick.
