Description
The Eastman PCH-M104 Natural is a flat-back A-style mandolin with a solid spruce top and laminated mahogany back and sides. Laminated wood is less sensitive to humidity swings than solid wood, and it costs less than the all-solid Eastman A-style models, which makes this a sensible first mandolin or a knock-around second one.
The neck is maple with an ebony fingerboard on a 12 inch radius and a 13 7/8 inch scale, with 20 frets and a 30 mm nut. The oval soundhole sets it apart from Eastman's f-hole A-style models. An adjustable compensated ebony bridge sits over a cast aluminum tailpiece, and geared tuners, ivoroid top binding, pearl dot inlays, a Truetone Satin finish and D'Addario XT phosphor bronze strings are standard. It ships in a padded gig bag.
It suits a player buying a first mandolin, or anyone who wants a gig bag instrument for jams and travel. Players who want an all-solid body, f-holes or a hardshell case should look at the MD305 or MD505 instead.
