The Gold Tone Mastertone OB-175 brings a 20-hole bell brass flat top tone ring and an 11" 3-ply maple rim to the Orange Blossom line at a price that puts a real bluegrass banjo within reach. The bell brass ring gives it the bright crack and quick response of a flathead, and the 14" mahogany resonator rounds that sound out and pushes it forward.

It has the projection and clarity to hold its own at a jam, with rolls that stay clean and a midrange that cuts without turning harsh. The mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard feel smooth and familiar, and the 1-5/16" Zero Glide nut keeps open strings ringing true and tuning stable. At about 11.5 pounds it weighs less than most flatheads, so long sessions go easier on the shoulder.

A glossy Vintage Brown finish, cream binding and vintage pearloid inlays with a Mastertone block at the 21st fret give it a classic look, and nickel hardware, a Presto tailpiece, a one-piece cast flange and GT planetary tuners round it out.
