The Martin D-28 Modern Deluxe rebuilds the most recorded dreadnought in history around a torrefied top. European red spruce treated with Martin's Vintage Tone System gives the guitar a played-in response straight out of the case — the top has already been thermally aged, so the stiffness and the give sit where they would on a well-worn instrument rather than a new one. East Indian rosewood back and sides supply the deep, glassy low end and the ringing overtone halo that define the D-28 voice.

The result is a bigger, more complex guitar than a standard D-28, and a louder one. Forward-shifted, GE-scalloped Adirondack spruce bracing — VTS-treated to match the top — moves the soundboard's active area closer to the bridge, which pushes bass response and headroom up together. European flamed maple binding frames bold herringbone top purfling, the back gets zig-zag authentic marquetry, and the headstock carries the 1933 CFM script logo in pearl above an East Indian rosewood veneer. Diamonds and squares long-pattern abalone runs the ebony fingerboard. Underneath, Liquidmetal bridge pins shed weight so more string energy reaches the top, and Waverly gold open-gear tuners handle the business end.
