Description
The Martin 00-18 Joe Bonamassa is a 00-14 Fret guitar modeled on Joe Bonamassa's pre-war 1937 00-18, and it is Martin's second collaboration with him. This one is the left-handed model. The solid spruce top wears a gloss 1937 Joe Bonamassa Sunburst, and the genuine mahogany back and sides share the gloss finish. Faux tortoise runs across the binding, pickguard and endpiece, and the paper label inside carries a pre-printed Joe Bonamassa signature.
Spruce over mahogany is the classic 00-18 pairing, and Martin describes this one as having a warm bass, a punchy midrange and articulate treble. The Golden Era scalloped X-bracing is spruce at 1/4 inch, and Martin credits it for the vintage-style resonance and sustain. The mahogany neck has a Modified Low Oval profile with a standard taper and a satin finish. A 24.9 inch scale keeps string tension lower than a 25.4 inch Martin, and the 1 3/4 inch bone nut leaves your fretting hand room between strings.
The ebony fingerboard carries abalone Old Style 18 inlays, the bridge is ebony with a drop-in bone saddle, and the Guatemalan rosewood headplate sits behind nickel open-gear tuners. It ships in a hardshell case with no electronics. We would put it in the hands of blues and fingerstyle players who want the 00 body in gloss with no pickup in the way. Anyone who needs to plug in should look at the 00-10E Retro Joe Bonamassa instead.
