The Taylor 714ce Next Generation pairs a Western Red Cedar top with solid Indian Rosewood back and sides, trading the punch and headroom of a spruce top for a softer attack and a rounder, more immediate voice. Cedar has a more compliant cell structure than spruce, so it responds fully at a lighter touch and reaches its tonal ceiling at lower playing volumes; Scalloped V-Class Bracing with Relief Rout channels that responsiveness into more sustain and cleaner intonation up the neck rather than looseness.

Cedar's softer attack gives up some of spruce's percussive snap in exchange for a note that blooms the instant a string is touched, with less pick-attack transient and more of the note's body up front.
