Description

This is a deposit-only preorder for the next Taylor Legacy 855e Jumbo 12-String Acoustic-Electric we bring in — not a specific instrument currently in stock. The photos above are Taylor's own manufacturer photos of this model, not the exact guitar you will receive. Once your instrument arrives, our in-house tech completes the full 23-point inspection and our photographer shoots your actual unit before it ships, and we'll confirm everything with you at that point.

The Taylor Legacy 855e is a 12-string acoustic-electric that brings back two things from Taylor's early years at once: the classic Jumbo body, returned to the line for this model, and the traditional X-bracing Bob Taylor built with before V-Class existed. The ultra-playable 12-strings of that era are a large part of what put Taylor on the map, and the 855e is built to that lineage with a solid Sitka spruce top over solid Indian rosewood back and sides.

At 17 inches across the lower bout, the Jumbo's large air chamber is a natural match for twelve strings in six octave-and-unison courses. Taylor voices it clear and balanced, with warm lows and chime-like trebles carrying the octave sparkle, and the X-bracing gives that body real power without giving up touch sensitivity, so it responds across a wide dynamic range instead of only rewarding a hard strum. The 1-7/8-inch nut, 25-1/2-inch scale, and gloss-finished Legacy Standard Carve neck are modern Taylor playability: room between each pair of strings for clean fretting, without the stiff feel older 12-strings are known for. It ships strung with a .010-.047 light 12-string set.

Appointments follow the straightforward look of Bob Taylor's early builds: white body binding, a three-ring green abalone rosette, mother-of-pearl large diamond fingerboard inlays, a faux-tortoiseshell pickguard, and gloss finish on body and neck. Two vintage details carry the period look further: a straight-ear peghead with Indian rosewood veneer and an ebony mustache bridge. L.R. Baggs Element VTC electronics with soundhole-mounted controls carry the 12-string chorus to a PA cleanly, a commemorative Legacy label sits inside the body, and the guitar ships in a Taylor Deluxe hardshell case. Every Legacy 855e ships under our Dread-Not Guarantee — a 30-day in-home trial and a full year to trade it in for 90% credit toward anything else in the store, backed by a free humidity monitoring kit. For a player who wants a big-bodied 12-string with vintage Taylor voicing and a modern neck, the 855e is built to anchor a rhythm section or carry a solo set by itself.
