This 2022 Lame Horse “Big Hoss” is a master-built Grand Auditorium that hits the perfect balance between bold design and world-class tone—and it’s in excellent condition. Originally crafted to represent Calton at the Dallas Guitar Show, this one-off custom build showcases stunning materials and meticulous attention to detail from the Lame Horse team. The top is Italian Alpine spruce, chosen for its clarity and dynamic response, paired with highly figured Texas burled mesquite back and sides for a uniquely warm and articulate tone with incredible visual character. The neck is a seven-piece laminate of Honduran mahogany and maple veneer, reinforced with both a Stew Mac Hot Rod truss rod and carbon fiber for rock-solid stability. Texas mesquite appears again in the peghead overlay and bridge, while Arizona Kingman turquoise inlays give the ebony fingerboard a high-desert elegance. The abalone rosette is set flat into the top, and the signature “dome” on the lower bout is inlaid with reconstituted stone and more turquoise. Engelmann spruce braces, Graphtech Ratio tuners, and a custom-fitted Calton flight case round out a guitar that’s as stage- and studio-ready as it is collectible.
