That combination gives it the dry crack, strong midrange and clear note separation bluegrass players expect, and the 14" mahogany resonator adds warmth and push without muddying the attack.

Rolls come out crisp and even, and the banjo has the volume to take a lead break over a full band or drive backup in a jam. The mahogany neck has a comfortable, familiar profile, the ebony fingerboard feels quick under the left hand, and the 1-1/4" bone nut keeps Scruggs-style picking and melodic runs right where you expect them. At about 13 pounds it carries the mass that gives a flathead its punch.
