Description

The Octolindo S Model Artist is KR Strings' flat-top octave mandolin, and it features an X-braced Engelmann spruce top with maple back and sides and a round soundhole, in the same guitar-shaped body, 21.5-inch scale and 1.38-inch nut as the carved-top F Models. It is the more affordable way into an Octolindo, and it sounds different from the F Model by design.

David Benedict has played the S Model Deluxe, the rosewood version of this flat top, since 2022. In his review that year he described a mellow, darker tone with more sustain from the flat top and soundhole, and he used it for Irish tunes, classical pieces and fingerpicking, along with four songs he recorded for The Foreign Landers album Travelers Rest. In his new F Model video he still calls the flat top a wonderful instrument he plays quite a lot, and says it sounds more like a guitar where the F Model sounds more like a mandolin.

The pin bridge is KR Strings' own Octolindo design and takes ball-end strings, which gives you more choices when you mix and match gauges, and the neck carries a radiused ebony fingerboard. We have #3226 in stock, and it comes with both a deluxe hardshell case and a deluxe gig bag. It is the Octolindo for a player who wants a warm, sustaining flat-top octave for Irish sessions and fingerpicking, for a little over half of what an F Model costs.
