Description
This Martin Custom Shop dreadnought is a D-18-style guitar with an Adirondack spruce top and back and sides of sinker mahogany that we selected for the build. It has a thin gloss finish with an aging toner, so it looks closer to a vintage Martin than a new one, and the old-style appointments follow through with brown faux tortoise binding and Style 18 inlays.
Adirondack spruce is known for headroom, which means a dreadnought like this keeps its clarity when you dig in with a flatpick, and the sinker mahogany adds depth and a midrange that stays focused when you play hard. The dreadnought body moves a lot of air, so you get a strong low end under a clear top, and that suits bluegrass flatpicking, driving rhythm and single-note lines alike.
A modified V neck with a dovetail joint gives it a traditional feel, and vintage-style Grover StaTite tuners finish the headstock. It has no electronics and comes in a hardshell case, so it suits a player who wants a purely acoustic Adirondack D-18. Anyone who wants a pickup built in should look at a Martin that comes with electronics.
