Description

If you have ever had the chance to play a genuine pre-war dreadnought, you know there is a specific magic in how those guitars vibrate. This D-28 Authentic 1937 Aged is Martin’s way of putting that exact feeling into your hands without the six-figure price tag. They have utilized a VTS torrefied Adirondack spruce top and hand-carved forward-shifted X-bracing to give it that wide-open, explosive projection. The back and sides are solid Guatemalan rosewood, which is widely considered the sonic successor to the old Brazilian sets, offering those deep, church-bell lows and incredibly rich harmonic overtones that define the Martin sound.

What really sets this one apart is the fanatical attention to detail in the construction. We are talking about full hide glue construction and a dovetail neck joint, which is the old-school way of ensuring every ounce of string energy travels straight into the body. The Aged finish treatment is done by hand to give the guitar the look and tactile feel of a well-loved heirloom that has been played in for ninety years. Even the Waverly tuners and the bone nut and saddle have been aged to match, so when you pick it up, it doesn't feel like a new guitar at all—it feels like an old friend that already knows all your favorite songs.

The playability is pure vintage, featuring an Authentic 1937 neck barrel and a 1 3/4 inch nut width that gives you plenty of room for clean flatpicking or complex chording. With a 25.4 inch scale length and an ebony fingerboard adorned with diamonds and squares inlays, the guitar has a physical presence that is just as impressive as its voice. Every piece of this build, from the bold herringbone trim to the zigzag backstrip, is a love letter to the golden era of acoustic luthiery. If you want the ultimate dreadnought that captures the soul of 1937, this is the one you have been waiting for.
