Description
The Martin DE Retro Plus Mahogany pairs a torrefied spruce top with solid mahogany back and sides, built to give players a broken-in, vintage voice straight out of the case. It's a Road Series dreadnought designed for the working musician who wants Martin's flagship 18-style character and reliable stage electronics in one instrument.
Torrefaction ages the spruce top before it ever leaves the factory, opening up a warm, seasoned tone with the kind of headroom usually reserved for guitars decades older. The mahogany back and sides add a focused midrange punch under that top, so strummed rhythm parts stay articulate instead of muddying together, and flatpicked runs cut through a full band mix. The Performing Artist neck profile with its high-performance taper keeps the low action comfortable across the neck, whether the player is working the first position or reaching up toward the 14th-fret body join.
The Old Style 18 rosette and fingerboard inlay, black binding, and aging-toner gloss top give it Martin's classic dreadnought look, while an LR Baggs Element pickup with onboard volume and tone controls makes the transition from living room to stage a non-issue.
