The Martin DSS-16E carries a warm, vintage-inspired voice into the refreshed 16 Series by way of Martin's slope-shoulder Dreadnought body, now offered for the first time at a shorter 24.9-inch scale for a more relaxed feel under the hand. This one wears a gloss spruce top in a striking Black Smoke finish over satin mahogany back and sides.

The mahogany body brings punchy midrange and strong treble response, with a controlled low end that stays focused instead of boomy. That slope-shoulder Dreadnought shape has always had a woody, intimate character, and the shorter scale here just makes it easier to play without giving any of that up.

A grained ivoroid pickguard gives it a distinctive look, while a Select Hardwood neck with a Modified Low Oval profile, ebony fingerboard with 1955 Style 18 inlays, and nickel open-gear tuners keep it comfortable and stable. Built-in L.R. Baggs Element electronics make it ready for the stage, and it ships strung with Martin's new Era Legacy Edition strings in a softshell case.
