The Martin O'ahu HG-28 has a different feel than a standard dreadnought or orchestra model right from the first strum. The sloped shoulder HG body shape gives it a softer, more rounded response, while the spruce and koa pairing brings in a really interesting balance of warmth, clarity, and sparkle. Visually, the gloss koa back and sides, bold herringbone trim, and vintage-inspired O'ahu script logo give it a strong nod to Martin’s historical Hawaiian-style instruments without feeling like a reissue piece.

There is a smoothness to the sound that stands out immediately. The spruce top keeps the attack clear and responsive, while the koa body adds a dry, woody character with a bit of natural shimmer on the high end. Compared to rosewood, koa tends to stay more focused and controlled, which works really well with the HG body shape. Chords feel open and balanced, and single notes carry nicely without getting overly sharp or compressed.
