Stage Ready

This instrument is being sold under our Stage Ready designation due to cosmetic imperfections that do not affect its structural integrity, playability, or tone.

Stage Ready Condition Note: There are minor finish scratches near the sound hole in the strumming area. There is also a small ding near the binding on the front of the mandolin, on the instrument's left side (the viewer's right when facing the front of the instrument), roughly in line with the bridge along the binding edge.

The Eastman MD505 answers the call for players who want true F-hole A-style mandolin tone without stepping up to F-style pricing. This particular unit is built with a solid Adirondack spruce top over solid maple back and sides, giving it a brighter, more headroom-forward voice than the standard spruce-top MD505, with the extra stiffness of Adirondack pushing more volume and overtone content into the mix.

Through the f-holes, the tone comes across punchy and articulate — enough midrange bite for tremolo and chop, with the maple back and sides keeping the low end tight rather than boomy. It responds well to both aggressive bluegrass rhythm playing and quieter fingerstyle or duet work, without ever feeling harsh.

This one is finished in gloss black rather than the standard Classic Sunburst, giving it a cleaner, stealthier look on stage. An ebony fingerboard and adjustable compensated bridge, Eastman's cast aluminum tailpiece, and nickel-plated Pingwell tuners round out the build, and it ships in a hardshell case. Cosmetically it is Stage Ready with a minor blemish, which is reflected in the price — a great way to get into a real Adirondack-top A-style mandolin without paying full freight.
