Description

The Taylor 314ce Studio opens the door to Taylor's all-solid-wood, V-Class-braced Grand Auditorium at the lowest price point in the line, pairing a torrefied spruce top with solid sapele back and sides. Taylor's 200 Series two rungs down still runs C-Class bracing — an asymmetrical, cantilevered pattern that boosts bass out of a smaller, partially laminate body, but caps how far the top can move. V-Class bracing replaces that cantilever with two angled ribs running the length of the lower bout, freeing the soundboard to flex evenly down its center while staying rigid at the edges. Players feel that difference as more sustain, more volume without added string tension, and notes that hold their pitch cleanly all the way up the neck — real gains, not just a step up in materials.

Torrefying the spruce top before bracing drives out residual moisture the way decades of playing naturally would, so the 314ce Studio sounds more broken-in than a freshly built spruce top usually does. Expect a punchy, present midrange with a warm, woody low end — strummers and singer-songwriters get clear vocal separation instead of a boomy bottom end fighting for space, while the solid sapele back and sides add a touch more overtone shimmer than straight mahogany without losing focus. Flatpickers will notice V-Class bracing evening out the response between wound and plain strings, so single-note runs stay articulate and don't thin out climbing past the twelfth fret.

Appointments stay understated on purpose: a full-gloss body, black 3-ring rosette, tortoise pickguard, and nickel hardware let the torrefied top's warm color do the talking, while a slightly narrower 1-11/16-inch nut and Standard Carve neck profile suit players coming from a dreadnought or an electric background. Taylor's Expression System 2 pairs body sensors with an under-saddle pickup to translate the top's actual movement rather than just string vibration, so the plugged-in tone tracks close to what the guitar sounds like unplugged. Every 314ce Studio ships under our Dread-Not Guarantee — a 30-day in-home trial and a full year to trade it in for 90% credit toward anything else in the store, backed by a free humidity monitoring kit. This is the instrument for a player who wants Taylor's all-solid V-Class sound without stepping up to the wider nut and higher price of the Next Generation 314ce.
