Description

The Taylor 814ce, Next Generation carries the flagship voice of the 800 Series into a Grand Auditorium body, and everything about its construction is built around one goal: string-to-string clarity at volume. A solid Sitka spruce top pairs with solid Indian rosewood back and sides, and Taylor's Scalloped V-Class Bracing with Relief Rout locks in intonation up and down the neck while letting individual notes ring out fully instead of blurring together in the low end.

That bracing is what makes the rosewood-and-spruce pairing work at this level. Indian rosewood contributes real harmonic complexity and a piano-like low end, but on a less deliberate bracing pattern that complexity turns muddy fast; V-Class keeps it separated, so the bass stays defined instead of washing out the mids. The spruce top adds headroom and a fast, dynamic response on top of that foundation, which means flatpickers get clean note separation on fast runs and fingerstyle players get sustain and bloom without losing articulation. It holds its own in a full band mix or carries a room by itself.

Appointments match the tone: a West African ebony fingerboard, bridge, and headstock veneer, mother-of-pearl fingerboard inlays, and a green abalone rosette ringing a bound sound hole, all set against a gloss-finished rosewood body with black hardware. The Action Control Neck uses a long-tenon joint that reaches deeper into the body, and the string height adjusts through the soundhole without taking off the strings or the neck. Taylor's Claria electronics carry that acoustic voice to a PA without the quack older undersaddle systems introduce when pushed, and the guitar ships in a Taylor Deluxe hardshell case built for the road. Every 814ce also ships under the Dread-Not Guarantee — a 30-day in-home trial and a full year to trade it in for up to 90% credit toward anything else in the store, backed by a free humidity monitoring kit. For a player who wants 800 Series rosewood tone with modern stage electronics built in, this is a Grand Auditorium that works equally well leading a bluegrass set or sitting behind a single vocal mic.
