Description
The Taylor Builder's Edition K24ce, Next Generation, builds its entire body out of Hawaiian koa — top, back, and sides cut from the same tonewood, a combination Taylor reserves for its higher tiers because koa this evenly figured and color-matched across three pieces is hard to source. Set on Taylor's Grand Auditorium body, the guitar carries the full Builder's Edition treatment: an Action Control neck joint, scalloped V-Class bracing with a relief rout, and a Kona Burst finish over gloss koa that lets the wood's natural chatoyance come through instead of covering it up. It is built for a player who wants koa's distinctive tonal signature and an all-koa look without stepping outside Taylor's V-Class platform.
Koa behaves differently than the spruce-and-rosewood pairings most players know. It comes out of the case tighter and more midrange-forward, with a compressed snap in the highs that gradually opens into a warmer, more complex voice as the top ages and breaks in. Scalloped V-Class bracing keeps that midrange focus from turning boxy, adding sustain and improving intonation up the neck so chords stay in tune with themselves even under a capo. The build rewards fingerstyle playing and open-tuned singer-songwriter work especially well, where koa's forward midrange and quick note decay let individual notes separate cleanly, while the Grand Auditorium body still supplies enough low-end push to hold up in a strummed rhythm part.
The appointments make the Builder's Edition tier obvious at a glance: a Paua single-ring rosette and a matching Paua spring vine fingerboard inlay set against West African Crelicam ebony, gold Gotoh 510 tuners with gold buttons, and an ebony bridge finished with green abalone-dotted bridge pins. Onboard, Taylor's new Claria pickup system — introduced on the Next Generation line — adds a soundhole-mounted Mid-Contour control alongside volume and tone, giving players direct control over midrange frequencies instead of just blending bass and treble. Every K24ce ships in Taylor's brown Deluxe hardshell case under our Dread-Not Guarantee — a 30-day in-home trial and a full year to trade it in for 90% credit toward anything else in the store, backed by a free humidity monitoring kit. It is a guitar built for the player chasing a genuinely rare tonewood combination and a stage-ready electronics package in the same instrument.
