(Used) Vintage 1980 Alvarez Yairi DY87 Double Neck w/ Gooseneck Pickup System #7289

Handcrafted in Japan during the golden era of Master Luthier Kazuo Yairi’s workshop, this vintage 1980 Alvarez Yairi DY87 double neck is a rare, show-stopping holy grail for acoustic collectors. In Excellent Condition, especially for it's vintage, there are a few deep scratches on the back of the 6 string neck where the neck meets the headstock. There are only a few other very minor scratches and dings (see pictures). Includes original case which is in good condition but has one latch that doesn't stay closed. Immortalized on world stages by progressive rock icons like Trevor Rabin of YES, this model pairs a shimmering 12-string top neck with a versatile 6-string bottom neck on a single soundboard. Finding a DY87 is rare enough on its own, but this exceptional piece comes complete with vintage YES photo provenance tucked inside the original case, making it a true centerpiece find.

What makes this specific DY87 extraordinarily unique is its un-cut body. Leaving the Yairi workshop as a purely acoustic instrument, its side bouts remain 100% factory-intact with no drilled holes or dated preamp control panels—preserving the structural integrity and acoustic voice of its solid spruce top and richly figured Jacaranda/Coral Rosewood back and sides. The mature tonewoods project a dry, rich, and massive acoustic presence across both fretboards that only four decades of natural aging can deliver.

Both mahogany necks feature dark ebony fingerboards adorned with intricate snowflake inlays and smooth, effortless playability. To handle live performance without compromising the pristine tonewoods, a non-invasive gooseneck microphone system was installed internally, running directly out through a clean endpin jack. Complete with original gold Yairi-branded tuners and a dark ebony bridge, this legendary vintage double neck stands fully bench-inspected and ready to make a serious statement in any collection.
