Description

The Yamaha FG820-12 is a great example of a 12-string that keeps things approachable without losing the character people are after. Built with a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides, it leans into a familiar tonewood pairing, just expanded across twelve strings. The traditional western dreadnought body gives it the space it needs to breathe, while the gloss finish and simple appointments keep the look clean and classic.

There is a natural fullness to the sound that comes with a 12-string, but this one stays controlled and usable. The spruce top keeps the attack clear and defined, while the mahogany body adds warmth and keeps the low end from getting too loose. You still get that shimmer and chorus effect from the doubled strings, but it does not turn into a wash of sound. Chords stay separated enough to be musical, which is really what you want in a guitar like this.

From a feel standpoint, Yamaha does a good job keeping it manageable. The slightly shorter 25 inch scale and 1 13/16 inch nut width give your hands the space they need without making the guitar feel oversized. The neck profile is comfortable, and the overall setup feels stable for a 12-string. It is a solid choice for players who want that classic 12-string sound for rhythm work, recording layers, or adding texture without fighting the instrument.
