This used 2023 Eastman MD805/V is a great example of why Eastman’s Antique Varnish Series has earned such a strong reputation with serious players. The solid Adirondack spruce top delivers a clear, punchy response with plenty of headroom, while the solid maple back and sides keep everything focused and articulate. It has that dry, woody character players love, with a lively chop and a sweet, ringing top end for melodies.

The maple neck feels comfortable and familiar, paired with an ebony fingerboard that offers a smooth, fast playing surface. The 13 7/8 inch scale length keeps it responsive, and the adjustable compensated ebony bridge helps dial in intonation and action with ease. Gotoh tuners are solid and dependable, and the relic nickel hardware complements the vintage-inspired look without feeling overdone.

This mandolin is in very good condition with basic playwear and some light scratching in the middle of the upper bout, all purely cosmetic and consistent with normal use. The antique varnish finish has already started to open up nicely, giving this instrument a broken-in feel right out of the case.
