Acoustic Guitars

Every acoustic guitar on this page ships only after a 23-point professional inspection by our certified in-house techs — action checked, frets dressed where needed, humidity verified — so it plays right the first time you open the case. Browse 400+ new and used flat-tops, from a first Eastman or Yamaha to a Bourgeois, Boucher, or Martin Custom Shop build, all under one roof in Springfield, Missouri.

Instruments $1,000 and up carry our Dread-Not Guarantee: a 30-day in-home trial, a full year to trade toward anything else in the store at up to 90% of what you paid (pre-tax, less round-trip shipping), that professional inspection, and a free Bluetooth humidity-monitoring kit. On a $2,800 guitar, that's up to $2,520 in trade credit, even after a full year of playing it.

How to Choose an Acoustic Guitar

Body size determines how a guitar feels and sounds before any tonewood enters the conversation. A dreadnought moves the most air in its price class — the volume and low-end punch that bluegrass rhythm and flatpicking demand. A Concert, OM, or Grand Auditorium body trades a little boom for note separation, which is why fingerstyle players gravitate there. A parlor or 000 sits comfortably on the couch and records with a focused midrange, and a jumbo gives strummers maximum headroom. Torn between the two most common choices? Our dreadnought vs. OM guide walks through it with sound samples.

Tonewood is the second decision. Mahogany back and sides produce dry, punchy mids that sit cleanly under a vocal; rosewood adds deeper lows and shimmering overtones that fill a room on their own. Our mahogany vs. rosewood comparison and tonewood guide cover the details. One rule of thumb that outlasts trends: solid wood opens up with years of playing, so a solid-top instrument is the floor we recommend even for a first guitar. Prefer nylon warmth or twelve-string chime? We stock nylon string and 12-string models alongside the steel-string core.

Acoustic vs. Acoustic-Electric

An acoustic-electric is the same guitar unplugged — same body, same bracing, same tone on the couch. The difference is a pickup and preamp that let you run straight into a PA or interface. If you expect to play out or record direct even occasionally, a factory-installed system costs less than adding one later and is voiced for that specific guitar. Browse acoustics with pickups installed, or read our guide to the best pickup systems for live performance.

New, Used, and Trade-Ins

Every pre-owned guitar here crosses the same tech bench as our new inventory — graded honestly, photographed as the actual instrument you receive, and eligible for Dread-Not Certified Used status after a full inspection. And because Dread-Not purchases carry a one-year trade guarantee at up to 90% of what you paid, plenty of our customers buy, play for a season, and trade up — the guitar you choose today doesn't have to be the guitar you're playing next year.

Acoustic Guitar FAQs

What is the best acoustic guitar for a beginner?
A solid-top guitar that stays in tune and doesn't fight your hands — that usually means an Eastman PCH or E1D, a Yamaha FG, or a Taylor Academy in the $350–$650 range. Every guitar we sell, including beginner models, passes a 23-point professional inspection before it ships, so the action is set correctly from day one — the single biggest reason new players quit is a poorly set up instrument. See our best acoustic guitars under $500 guide for specific picks.
What's the difference between an acoustic and an acoustic-electric guitar?
Unplugged, nothing — same body, same bracing, same tone. An acoustic-electric adds a pickup and preamp so you can plug into a PA or recording interface. If you'll ever play live or record, factory-installed electronics are voiced for that guitar and cost less than adding a system later. Browse our acoustic-electric guitars.
Which body shape should I choose — dreadnought, OM, or parlor?
Pick by how and where you play. A dreadnought delivers the most volume and bass — the bluegrass and strumming standard. An OM or Concert body balances every string for fingerstyle clarity. A parlor or 000 is the most comfortable to hold for long sessions and records with a focused midrange. Our dreadnought vs. OM guide compares them with sound samples.
Are your acoustic guitars inspected before they ship?
Every instrument at every price gets a 23-point professional inspection by our certified in-house techs — structural, cosmetic, and playability checks — before it leaves Springfield. Guitars $1,000 and up also carry the Dread-Not Guarantee: a 30-day in-home trial, a one-year trade-in value of up to 90%, and a free Bluetooth humidity monitoring kit.
Do you sell used acoustic guitars or take trade-ins?
Both. Our pre-owned guitars are graded by the same techs who inspect new inventory, and fully inspected used instruments earn Dread-Not Certified Used status. We take trade-ins toward anything in the store — and if you bought a Dread-Not instrument from us, you can trade it back within one year for up to 90% of what you paid.
